Summer Vacation!
June 11, 2008
Wow! The end of the school year already. Unfortunately, life in Michigan goes by as fast as it did in Washington. Today is our last day of school. I officially have a sophomore in high school, 6 days away from her 15th birthday, and a 5th grader. It doesn't seem right.
Lauren is having an end of the year/birthday party today. What a incredible thing to think she has only been here for one school year has could easily invite 12-15 girls over (we limited it to 8). God is so good!
One of my concerns when we moved was for Alex and godly role models in his life. Between Steve's family, our church family and friends he was surrounded by godly men. In God's faithfulness, he has brought a male school teacher, 2 male Sunday School teacher and some of our neat, neat new (Michigan) friends into his life. I am amazed at His mercy and love.
The kids head off to bible camp next week. Two separate camps but only 10 miles apart. Each of them are going with a friend. It is hard to let them go but I suppose that too is a part of parenting. Praying for their safety but also that God would make Himself very real to both of them in a fresh, new way.
In a couple of weeks, we look forward to Steve's family visiting and family reunions throughout the month of July. I always look forward to summer! I look forward to visits from friends and family ...please know our door is always open and you are always welcome.

Soccer, Soccer, and More Soccer
Spring 2008
Lauren played on the freshman soccer team for her high school. She hasn't played since 4th or 5th grade but decided to try out this year. The last couple of games she played goalie and did a great job. Mom found that the game goes by much slower when your kid is in the goal box (a couple of our team's goalies have been injured this year). What a great group of girls and her coach was absolutely phenomenal! The girls had an undefeated, unscored upon season - a first in the coach's 25 years of coaching. It was a great team to watch play and will be a fun to watch them develop throughout their high school career.

Alex also played this rec. soccer this spring with Steve as his coach. Both of them had a great time and ended the season with a winning record. Midland is a crazy soccer town and we opted not to do the travel team. There was even one Saturday that Steve was traveling and Lauren and I got to coach. Can we say, 11 - 1 victory?!? I am glad Lauren knew the rules of the game! I know the basics but always had to ask her when I could sub someone into the game.
Steve is also playing in the Men's "Senior" League (that makes me laugh! 30+ is considered senior). He is having a great time, though a knee injury has put him in the goal box to minimize the strain of running (I guess this explains the "senior" part of the league). This is his first experience as goalie but is doing a great job.

Home Sweet Home
May 12, 2008
It is official! We are finally signing papers today at 11 a.m. It is no longer the "church house" but rather our house! Visitors welcome!
Who knew it would take 8 months. It certainly not anything we ever expected but God knew. it was a great time, for the kids especially, to deepen their relationship with my mom.
The kids are not going to know what a typical move looks like. I don't know anyone else who moved their stuff into the garage and was allowed to strip wallpaper, paint, update light fixtures, cabinet hardware, etc. BEFORE they moved in. What a gift this as been!

One Month Later
Hello!
Well, we have a house. God is amazing how He provides! The church we have been attending had a house donated and they decided to sell it. It was only open to the church members and attendees. They had an announcement in the bulletin. They were accepting bids (kind of like a silent auction). Out of 500 families we were the only ones who submitted a bid. (This boggles my mind!) After a little negotiation, they accepted our offer. We are to sign papers either tomorrow or the next. They will "hold" the house for us until ours in Kent sells. Please continue to pray that this happens soon!
We won't take possession of the house until we close but in the meantime, they will allow us to paint, remove wallpaper, have a washer and dryer delivered etc. We have spent several hours the last 2 days doing yard work and meeting a few neighbors. It is a great feeling!
The kids seem to be settling in quite well. Lauren continues to have her wave of emotions where she misses her friends (but then, so does her mom).
Alex is thoroughly enjoying flag football. Even though his team is defeated (not a misprint) he is starting to plan out his high school and football career.
It has been absolutely beautiful here. The colors and the warm, DRY weather has been delightful!
